This was my old bedroom. And I had that tin tile over my bed. It stayed there for about 2 years. But a minute after my husband hung it, I knew it was too high.
Then we switched bedrooms, got new bedding, painted, painted new side tables, accessorized and I like this room about a million times more. But I still wanted to try to see if I could use the tin tile above our bed. Because its free, and I thought it could add in a nice old world element.
Here's the tin tile before I did anything to it. You can tell its like a light yellowish color
So I painted it 2 coats of white paint that I had around the house
And then I applied sophisticated finishing paint in pewter. This stuff dries really fast, so I just brushed it on, and if it looked like too much quickly wiped it off with a wet cloth. I didn't try to make it perfect, or worry too much about it being even.
I wanted it to look like it was the pewter color but it had been painted white and was naturally distressing. The project probably took me about 45 minutes all together.
I like that it adds in an "old" element to this room which is more modern, I like that mix and match of old & new. And we hung it much lower this time. So it looked more like a headboard and less like wall art.
So what do you think??
