Perfect Is Over Rated

Perfect is over rated. I've talked before about being brave, and that's how I want to live in our home.

I'm joining The Nester today in her It doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful link party

That being said...I want to talk about some imperfections in my home, and things that I want to change.

Recently I've been thinking about our dining room. I'm ready for a change. I feel like it needs to be brighter and fresher. There's nothing wrong or imperfect about the color really, I just want a lightness that this room doesn't possess.

I think with the brown walls, brown wood floors, brown rug and brown chairs, its just too much.

Since we hang out in the living/dining room all day I like to think of them as one living space.

I've been trying to add in more yellow in the living room. So maybe painting the dining room yellow will be the perfect solution. It certainly will make the room seem bright and sunny, and I think it will be a nice transition from the living room.

And these no sew curtains (hot glued) I'm really proud of, but they don't really fit my style anymore.
I hate the idea of buying new curtains since we are trying to sell our house, but that's not really a reason to keep something I'm not in love with anymore. I think I might just take down the curtains and rods, fill up the holes and paint the walls something fresh.

Do you have any suggestions for paint colors besides yellow?

I wish that I could keep my home better organized while I was doing makeovers

Even though the process is not perfect, I enjoy the final product

I have never seen anyone put a yard stick on a new desk. I'm sure someone out there thinks its ridiculous.

But the truth is, I love it. I smile every time I see it, it just makes me happy. I stuck it on with mounting putty so its not permanent, I don't think you could get any more imperfect.

Every day I try to embrace the imperfection and live in the now. Let the dishes clutter the sink every once and awhile. "I'm busy living", I tell myself.

I still enjoy the beauty where I can find it, and make notes on things that I'd like to change

I feel like our house is such a dark grey it really needs lighter items where ever we can find them.

I plan to add white flowers this year, I wont put the stars back up, and I might paint the wicker furniture white, and I might just buy some of those. Or better yet, just buy a few more of these chairs because they are cheap and clean and white. My wicker is really falling apart.

There will always be little imperfections that I want to change, but I think the key is not let them stop you from enjoying your life or home right now.

Hope you enjoyed, and will become a follower

Be Braver and Take More Risks

Take a risk on an old chair

Paint it up, and use a fabric that is a little bolder than you are comfortable with

If you love something, find an unusual way to display it

I love big bold graphics letters.

So I decided to make my own art, I wondered if it was silly, or crazy? Maybe this isn't your taste, but it was a risk for me that has totally paid off.

I wanted to add a little whimsy to my Christmas decor...why not use a stick and some ornaments

Take an old beat up garage tool storage unit, clean it, paint it, and use it for your linens and toiletries. Dont have a new paint to use? Do what I did and just mix a few.

Why cant you make your own art, even if its cheap and easy?

It only matters if you think its beautiful

Make your space your own.

Buy oops paint, it could turn out great

Pick up someones trash, even if you have no place to put it

And because it was free...be braver and take a risk and do something totally different

Hot glue some curtains together, even brag about how you cant sew but that didnt stop you from making your own custom curtains

Try something different, even if you aren't sure about it

Then try something different again. Because trial and error totally works in home design.

Be brave...take risks, make your home your own.

Thanks for visiting. I'm looking for brave new followers, I hope you'll join in on the fun.

Master Bedroom Progress- Table Edition

Lets continue the progress with the master bedroom shall we?

Since this is gradual I'll try and make sure you haven't missed anything. This is the room when it was green, but we had our new bedding

This is after the paint job. PS- Nimbus Cloud by Martha Stewart

I found this bar cart on the side of the street one day. A woman right down the street was moving to California, she was giving her stuff away willingly, I didn't have a place for this...but I thought it was unique enough to take home

It was a real orange kind of wood color

Macaroni is a very loyal dog, he sits and watches me paint, he also loves getting into the pictures

The bar cart has pretty little caster feet, and it actually moves really easily too

A little less than a month ago when I was shopping in Home Depot for my bedroom paint color I came across this color in the Oops section. I had already decided to go with grey for the room, but I thought this blue was just too beautiful to not take home. Its kind of dark and moody and is just divine.

I decided with $7 oops paint and a free piece of furniture, why shouldn't I do something a little different? So I painted the tray parts white, and the rest blue.

I've been a big fan of chevron for a long time now, and despite the fact that its been done to death, I'm so not over it. I went with a chevronish pattern, but with a little twist, because why not?

And I did the bottom too, I didn't attempt to line them up, or make them perfect. As you can see on the bottom there is that neat little side tray to the left, I decided to not add the white paint or tape there.

And then I painted over the tray with blue, and took off the tape. In this picture you can see the white is coming up on the lip of the tray, and parts of the wood hasn't been painted. I decided I wanted the whole lip to be blue. So the only white parts would be on the actual tray.

And here it is when its complete.

Since we removed the bookcase on the other side of the bed, my husband needed a side table. This was in my attic, and its nice and slim so it fits in that spot.

I like mismatching furniture, its very chic. But...I wanted it to be cohesive. So I painted it too. But no chevron or stripes or craziness, just painted it.

So here is the new picture of the room. I still need to accessorize the table, and I think I need new lamps and finish the rest of the room, but decorating doesn't happen all in one day.

Last week someone commented on my blog that they love that I am real, that I show the process and don't act like it all happens overnight, because sometimes when all you see is the before and after, its disheartening. Where were all the middle steps...how did you get from point A to point Z?

So I'm happy to tell you that I'm documenting all the little milestones this room has. So far I'm really excited about how its turning out. This room is shaping up to be decorated differently from the rest of my house, and I'm enjoying that.

Is it more fun to just see the before & after...or more fun when you can see it happen a little bit at a time over a relatively short period of time?

---Because lets be honest, no one wants to wait months or years to see a big reveal!
