Home Goals

I'm linking over to the nester, she has a big super fun link party, so if you'd like to see more people talking about their home goals, go there.

I really love our home. It feels comfortable and cozy and just pleasing to my eyes. Not everything is perfect though and there is ALWAYS room to grow, but I always say thats the fun in it.  These are my goals for our home this year. Next year I might need and want something completely different.

My Goals for our home

1. Take Risks

I want to take more risks in my home. Not huge scary neon green walls risks...but risks that feel like me, like us. Risks that make this house a home. Risks that make our home feel special, to us.

2. Make it more personal.
I think I do a good job of only allowing things in our home that I love.

And as my family changes, so does our home...in the sweetest way. I'd like our home to always reflect us. Not nessecaryily the trendiest or coolest thing right now. I dont want to do what everyone else is doing, because everyone else is doing it. I want our home to feel like us and surround ourselves with things that we love.

Book Nook...it may not be the trendiest home bloggy thing, but we like it.

3. Stop taking in strays
I have an attic full of junk. I have big ideas of painting furntiure and selling it. I really love fixing stuff up. So when I see something on the side of the road with tons of potential for free...whats a girl to do?  The problem is I dont really have the space to fix things up, and it usually involves bringing furntiure up a couple of flights of stairs. So, no more buying or adopting furntiure or items.

4. Purge the things we wont use
I need to get rid of the furntiure that I dont think we'll use. Selling on craigslist has worked for me in the past, but it takes time, and patience, maybe I need to accept that the things that I paid for I just wont be getting my money back on. Maybe getting rid of it for no cash will be reward enough in itself? Maybe I need to try to get rid of two items a month until I'm done? Maybe I should put it all out on the street and write *curb alert* on craigslist? Free and thrifted items are always a risk, one that has paid off so well, maybe I can just look at it as giving back?

2 bedroom side tables

And I have a ton more stuff, that hasnt been finished just taking up space.

5. Live like we'll never leave
Our home is on the market right now. We are planning to sell and move to North Carolina. But as most of you know, selling your home isnt really easy right now. So we've been on the market for 7 months. Its difficult to live in a home that you dont know how long you'll be there for. Emotionally you say goodbye to the home, you try to pack up your personal stuff, still making it look pretty, but trying to remove the us in it.

But how do you live in a space like that for 7 months? Lately I've been trying to forget that the house is on the market, and just live in the moment. Just live in this house until we aren't living here anymore. Maybe we'll move in 2 months, maybe 2 years, maybe 10. So since I dont know...I need to let go of trying to anticipate the departure and just enjoy the now.

I hope you enjoy visiting, I loved having you here.

If you enjoyed my home, or some of my goals, I'd hope that you'd subscibe by email if you dont have a blog, or become a follower if you do.

New Years Resolutions/Goals

Can you believe its already 2012? I swear time flies by.

I've been thinking about goals lately, as I'm sure you have too. I have personal goals as well as blog goals.

Personal Goals-

1. Learn how to cook better

I don't know about you, but I have little to no patience for cooking. We get by with simple meals that are relatively easy and my husband does a lot of the cooking. In 2012 I'd like to take on more responsiblity with cooking . One of the problems is my husband is a picky eater, I'm not very adventurous and by the end of the day...who can even be bothered?

So I plan to make it a priority to try one new recipe a week. I'm planning on using my crock pot more often, and I also bought a bread baking book too.

Hopefully I'll make some great things, and I'll try to write a quick little post about it here so you can try the recipe too...and so I have some accountability.

2. Prep Better

I'm the kind of person who jumps full force into projects, sometimes I do a better job than others to get the correct tools first, and set myself up for success. So starting in the new years I"m going to try to do a better job of taking the 5 minutes to put down the drop cloths and use painters tape, and find all my supplies before I start. I'm a creative person, this will be difficult!

3. I guess lose weight?

That's every ones resolution I feel like, right? I'd like to start drinking more water, and eating less chocolate. I just love chocolate so much. And I probably shouldn't drink as much diet soda as I do...so drink more water, less soda.

And BLOG GOALS

Well I am such a beginner at this. So I just have to keep it simple.

1. Write about what I'm doing

I'd ideally like to write 5 times a week, but no less than 3 times. However I really want every post to be great, I want to deliver more quality than quantity.

2. Get some followers.

I get thrilled just thinking about the people who are following me, that every time I post they get to see my words and pictures and ideas. It really means a lot to me, and I'd like to build that up.

3. I'd like some advertisers and I'd like to contribute to another bloggers site

Ideally I'd love to make money doing this, and be able to contribute to my family. So I look at this blog as way to share my home, thoughts and passions, making money from it would just be icing on the cake.

And thats pretty much it.

Are any of my goals the same as yours? If so which ones?

If you like what you see...go on and follow me.

Plan for now.

I'm such a planner, and maybe to a fault. I'm one of those 3 moves ahead, crossing that bridge, counting those chickens kind of gal. I'm cautious.

But lately, I've been trying to push myself to live in the now, plan for the now. When we bought our home as newleyweds with no children, I was already concerned about how this 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath, 1400 sq foot home would be able to hold all of our life. So in my mind, our home has always had an expiration date.

Then we had our daughter a year ago, and my mind started immediately planning for the future. This house couldn't possibly hold all three of us, and if we plan to have more (and we always talked about having two kids) then I had to plan our evacuation route ASAP.

The problem is this house is plenty big for the three of us (more on that soon), but I'm always too busy worried about the next 20 years and how our life will play out in this house.

So if you are like me, we need to STOP planning our lives away, it's unrealistic and will drive us crazy. Reasonably plan for 5-7 years when making home decisions, you never know what life will bring and trying to plan 20 years down the road will only set you up for disaster.

It's also ok to wait for a home to get too big, or too small and then come up with a remedy, let life dictate these decisions and not silly worries. Just a reminder to myself to live in the now.
