Looking at some trends in design

Do you ever wonder about the things that are super trendy right now, and wonder what you'll think of them in a year, in 5 years, in 10 years?

I genuinely really like all these trends. The deer heads was probably the only one that I didn't like right away. At first I didn't get it, and didn't like it. Then in time I saw the humor of it, the fun-ness, the whimsy, and now I like them. I don't own one, but I like them.

Its hard to believe that we'll ever feel embarrassed, or confused by our decor choices.

All I can say about trends is chose wisely. If you really love it, go for it.

Paint is always easy to change, so have fun, paint is a really low cost investment for high impact. Nail holes are easy to fill, don't let that stop you from having the best and biggest gallery wall. Buy a small dose of that pattern that you love, no need to slipcover your entire couch with it, maybe a few pillows will do?

I'm really still loving all these trends, how do you feel about them? Do you have any of them in your home, or are you itching to get one in your space?

  1. i don't get it...what's wrong with the last photo? lol i have a few of these trends in my home...chalkboards, birds (though i've loved birds for YEARS) but it seems as if some of the trends are just classics...like the gallery wall and stencils. of which i've also done years ago. the truly good things always come full circle. lol

  3. I like to keep my house as classic as possible with a few trendy things that are inexpensive and easily changed. When the trendy accents become dated it's fun to update them with "new" trendy accents. That's what makes decorating so much fun!

  5. I think your tips are spot on. I try not to do something just because it's trendy- but on the other hand I don't want to NOT do something just because it's trendy. It all comes down to what I really do like. And you're right- things that are permanent (like tile) should be done with a classic style or it will date. Great post!

  6. I love that so many of these trends can be added to a home with a change of a pillow or two, new colors, stripes, fun pattern..... or changed with a gallon or two of paint! Go with what you love!

  7. Deer heads? I was so happy when our deer heads moved out into the garage! Fake or not - NOT in my house! I love grain sack anything! The pallets are cool! I have always loved birds so that's not trendy for me. The chalkboard painted stuff I can live with, I have a few projects in mind for that but I wouldn't paint an entire wall with it! Anyway, great post! Thanks for sharing!
