I have always loved birds so that's not trendy for me. The chalkboard painted stuff I can live with, I have a few projects in mind for that but I wouldn't paint an entire wall with it! I try not to do som...I think your tips are spot on. I try not to do something just because it's trendy- but on the other hand I don't want to NOT do something just because it's trendy. It all comes down to what I really do like. And you're right- things that are permanent (like tile) should be done with a classic style or it will date.
