Kitchen Before & After

My husband and I bought a foreclosure.  It took 6 months to close on the house, and another 3 months for the kitchen and bathroom to be completed so we could move in.  We live in NY state, so it’s very expensive living- about an hour from NYC.
Our house was empty for over 2 years, and my poor husband (and my in-laws) couldn’t see the potential of this home built in 1890!  Now it is just a dream come true living in our home, of course there is always more to do. But that’s kind of the fun of it.
I’m a sucker for  before and after shots, so I’d like to start my blogging life with a before and after of a room in my home.

And then recently we updated these lights again.

Ok.  Now a little back story.  The kitchen before felt obviously outdated, but also dirty and gross.  That’s why I decided to paint the cabinets white and the walls light blue, for that fresh clean look.  We chose the tin backsplash because I really liked the texture that it would add.  We also added white tile to the ceiling to make the room feel like it belonged in this old house.  We updated all the appliances, sink and trash can to stainless steel. And then added oil rubbed bronze hardware to the cabinets and the sink faucet.  We also removed the countertop and put in black and white marble tile countertops.  Its not granite, but its an improvement.

Close up of the tile, which is grouted together just like a floor

We used a system called schleter which can be found at home depot

After months of living with the kitchen, I decided to go 1 step further. We then added molding to the top of the cabinets and wainscotting to the sides of all the cabinets, and also added a chairrail and wainscotting all around the room.

Since there wasn’t that much wall space, this wasn’t that expensive, but it gave the kitchen a more expensive custom look.

We get lots of positive feedback on the celing too. We bought it online, and just glued it up. Since our home was built in 1980, I think it brings the right authenticy to the home, but I also think this could add great character for a newer built home

We are still currently working on this space, I loved how the cabinets looked on the outside, but they still looked like this when we opened them. Ugly.

So we painted them out white

It makes me much happier to open them up and see this now.

Hi...I'm new here, its my first day

I’ve read blogs for about 2 years now.  Every day I turn on my laptop excited to see, read, and learn.  I guess now 2 years later I realize I’d also like to share.
I’m in a different place now than 2 years ago.  I was freshly married, my husband and I moved out of the home we were renting, and back into my parents home while we waited to buy our foreclosure.  Since then I have decorated until my hearts desired, we got pregnant, and we had an angel.  Her name is Kennedy Winter, and now I’m a stay at home mommy.  Furthermore we are currently in the process of selling our little love nest and relocating to North Carolina.  I hope you'll join us in our journey.
The biggest difference now in my life is that my work is taking care of my daughter and home full time.  Although my plate is filled up, I think I need a place to call my own.  I think daily about the decisions I make to be the best mother, wife, and homemaker, I’d like a place to make sure that I don’t lose myself also.
This will hopefully be a place where I can share openly about my whole life, so it certainly will include my role as a mother, but I also hope that it allows me to continue my growth as an individual. I'm crazy about decorating and DIY projects, Id really like to learn how to cook and garden too, I'm hoping this blog pushes me to pursue those new hobbies.
I hope in time you feel like you know me, as I feel like I know my own celebrity hero bloggers. And to even imagine that I would inspire someone else…well that’s the dream
